I was honored to be asked to speak at The tank Museum Tankfest, back in June.

In 1906, a famed explorer saw something on the horizon that would lead an expedition of men to search for a magnificent land they hoped would be full of new and undiscovered treasures for science.

It seems, historically, it is easier to begin a war than to end one.

On September 24, 1959 a strange all black aircraft with no markings made an emergency “wheels up” landing at a private landing strip in Japan. It was an embarrassing accident for the US Central Intelligence Agency, as the plane, a Lockheed U-2C, did not officially exist. 66 years later, details of the incident, and of the extraordinary aircraft that has had an extraordinarily long service life, are still secret.

While glory was to the front, the First Canadian Army, undermanned and facing supply problems, in a campaign overshadowed by nearly everything else in the war, was given the unsung task of clearing the channel coast. On September 22, 1944 operation Unergo began.
